About manroland

manroland AG was a manufacturer of printing presses for newspaper web offset, illustration web offset and sheetfed offset, producing systems for newspaper, advertising, publishing and packaging printing. The company was formed in 1979 as MAN Roland Druckmaschinen AG through the merger of Roland Offset- und Maschinenfabrik Faber und Schleicher (Offenbach am Main) with Augsburg-based M.A.N.-Druck- und Maschinenbau, and was renamed manroland from 2008. Distributed across the sites in Offenbach am Main, Augsburg and Plauen, manroland most recently employed around 6,500 staff (as of November 2011); worldwide the figure was about 7,000 people in 2010. Products included the ROLAND series of sheetfed offset presses as well as the COLORMAN and LITHOMAN web offset presses, complemented by press control technology (PECOM) and workflow software from subsidiary ppi Media. Following the insolvency filing in November 2011, the company was split in 2012 into manroland Sheetfed (Offenbach, Langley Holdings) and manroland Web Systems (Augsburg, Possehl Group); in Plauen, manroland Mechatronic Systems operates under that name, offering capacity expansion to third parties.
