About Appel Feinkost
Maris Food GmbH produces canned fish and delicatessen products under the Appel brand at its Cuxhaven site. The product range includes herring fillets in various creams and sauces, fried herring fillets, herring and curry rolls, trout fillets, sardine fillets, mussels, tuna salads as well as delicatessen mayonnaise, remoulade and seasoning sauces based on rapeseed oil. The fish comes from sustainable wild catch (MSC) or aquaculture (ASC); the catching method per product is transparently documented, including pelagic trawls and purse seines. Since 2018, the company has completely avoided palm oil. Distribution takes place via food retail, an online shop (foodsetter.de) and its own factory outlet in Cuxhaven on the Fischmeile. Founded in 1879 in Hanover, the company was part of Heristo AG from 1999 and has been run by Maris Food GmbH since January 2023.
