The wine collective from the Markgräflerland
Markgräfler Winzer eG, based in Efringen-Kirchen, is a winegrowers' cooperative founded in 1952 that today ranks among the larger producer estates in Baden. Around 940 winegrowers cultivate approximately 915 hectares of vineyards with about 4.2 million vines, from the Batzenberg in the north to the Grenzacher Hornfelsen, Germany's southernmost vineyard. The grapes are processed and vinified in the cooperative's own winery in Efringen-Kirchen, including in stainless steel tanks and cold fermentation; the range includes Gutedel (Chasselas), Burgundy varieties, Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder), cuvées and vintage sparkling wines, complemented by brandies, liqueurs and non-alcoholic products. The wines are marketed through several product lines, from the everyday line through vineyard-designated wines to the premium line DER, made from yield-reduced old vineyards. Sales take place via an online shop, five wine markets/retail locations in the region, the gastronomy sector and the specialised trade. The cooperative has been positively reviewed several times in specialist media such as Eichelmann and Falstaff, including awards at the Meininger Red Wine Award and the Gutedel Cup.
