About maxon group

maxon is a Swiss manufacturer of precision electric drive systems with its headquarters and production plant in Sachseln in the canton of Obwalden. The company produces brushed and brushless DC motors (including HD motors for ambient temperatures up to 200 °C), AC motors via its subsidiary Parvalux, spur and planetary gearheads as well as shaft gearheads, position encoders, motor control electronics and complete mechatronic drive systems. Its value chain ranges from the development of customer-specific Precision Drive Systems and prototype production to high-volume manufacturing; more than 5 million drive units are produced annually in around 12,000 variants. A historic core process is electroforming, which was originally used to make shaver foils for Braun GmbH; the patented coreless rotor winding method with diamond-shaped winding still shapes the motor technology today. Gearheads are made from plastic, ceramics (zirconium dioxide, aluminum oxide) or stainless steel; brushes made of graphite or precious metals are used in brushed motors. Key markets are medical technology, industrial automation, aerospace (including NASA Mars rovers), mobility solutions, automotive, communications, metrology and test engineering, and security technology.
