About maxon motor gmbh
maxon motor gmbh is the German sales company of the maxon Group, a manufacturer of precision electric drive systems founded in 1961. The portfolio includes brushed DC motors (DCX, DC-max) and brushless BLDC motors (EC/ECX/EC-i/EC-4pole) with diameters from 4 to 275 mm, planetary gearheads (GPX/GPX UP) up to 70 Nm, encoders, control electronics (EPOS4, ESCON, MiniMACS) as well as custom mechatronic drive systems from a single prototype to mass production of around 200,000 units per year for the semiconductor market alone. Applications range from medical technology with cleanroom assembly and biocompatible materials to heavy-duty drives for the oil and gas industry that withstand temperatures up to 200 °C; for these, electrically demagnetization-resistant samarium-cobalt magnets, stainless steel with laser-welded joints and temperature-resistant copper windings are used. The maxon Group employs 3,200 people in 41 countries. The German branch is located in Munich.

Materials & Processes
Samarium-cobalt magnets
Temperature-sensitive high-performance magnets for heavy-duty drives that only demagnetize at significantly higher temperatures.
Stainless steel
Main material of the heavy-duty motors for downhole applications with laser-welded joints instead of adhesives.
Copper (winding wire)
Temperature-resistant insulation and impregnating varnish enable operation up to 200 °C.
Ceramics (spindles)
Spindles of the micro linear drives for long service life in semiconductor applications.
Biocompatible materials
Components for implanted drives (e.g. Heart-Assist under 6 mm diameter), manufactured in the cleanroom.
Laser welding
Joining technology instead of structural adhesives for greater resilience under extreme conditions.

Quality
maxon is certified to SN EN ISO 13485, ISO 9001 and EN 9100. Motors are tested in the company's own development laboratory with a vacuum chamber, climate-temperature systems and a shock test rig (up to 2500 g); in the endurance test room more than 1,000 motors run for over 20,000 hours, complemented by 100% final inspection in production.
