About Metglas, Inc.
Metglas, Inc., headquartered in Conway, South Carolina (USA), is a manufacturer of amorphous metal ribbon (METGLAS®). In the 1970s — at that time as Allied Signal in Morristown, NJ — the company pioneered the development and production of amorphous metal, an alloy whose atoms are arranged in a disordered pattern. The proprietary manufacturing process is based on rapid solidification: the molten alloy is quenched at approximately one million degrees Celsius per second. The product portfolio includes transformer steel (amorphous ribbon for transformer cores as wound cores and strip foils), brazing foils for metal joining in aerospace, heat exchangers and metallic catalytic substrates, pulse power cores, magnetic materials, nanocrystalline foils as well as motors with amorphous stators. In addition, Metglas offers research and development services, including soft magnetic core prototyping, an experimental casting line, vacuum furnace capacity and SEM/EDAX analytics. Manufacturing at the Conway site is certified to ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015.
