Microtech Gefell GmbH is a manufacturer of condenser microphones based in Gefell in Thuringia. The company develops, produces and markets audio microphones for studios, stages and broadcasting as well as measurement microphones for acoustic measurement technology. Its range of services also includes microphone repair as well as the installation and maintenance of acoustic test rigs; an in-house calibration laboratory accompanies production. Well-known products include large-diaphragm and small-diaphragm condenser microphones, the boundary microphone KEM 970 (among other uses in the German Bundestag) and weatherproof microphone units for continuous outdoor noise monitoring. The company was founded in 1928 by Georg Neumann, relocated its operations to Gefell in 1943 and has been trading as Microtech Gefell GmbH since 1993; the sole shareholder is Georg Neumann KG. Production takes place at the headquarters on Georg-Neumann-Platz in Gefell; among other things, the historic M7 capsule is still handmade to this day.
