The Manufactory
Moritz Grossmann GmbH is an independent watch manufactory founded in 2008 in Glashütte (Saxony) that manufactures mechanical luxury wristwatches. The manufactory revives the legacy of Karl Moritz Grossmann (1826–1885), an inventor, visionary and master teacher of the Glashütte art of watchmaking. It produces its own movements and hands, with in-house hand production — including handmade hands in 750/000 rose gold — being a distinctive feature among Glashütte manufactories. Nearly all watch components, including the Grossmann balance, are made by hand; hand finishing is an integral part of the manufacturing philosophy. The manufactory also offers artisanal surface finishes such as tremblage (hand-engraved surfaces) and silver plating (Anreibeversilberung) of movement parts and dials. The watches are offered in the Benu (Heritage, Contemporary) and Tefnut (Classic, Jewellery) lines as well as in special models such as Tourbillon, Power Reserve and Perpetual Calendar. The company is located in Glashütte in the Eastern Ore Mountains, which is regarded as the centre of German precision watchmaking.
