About MuRayTech
MuRayTech GmbH from Hamburg develops and operates Active Muon Imaging for the non-destructive testing (NDT) of large, mission-critical components. A compact laser-plasma accelerator generates a controlled muon beam on demand – unlike passive muon tomography, there is no need to wait for cosmic radiation. The technology images up to one metre of dense metal non-destructively, delivers complete 3D structures in minutes with a resolution below 0.1 mm and detects defects automatically. Inspected components are made of dense metals and ceramics, in particular complex-shaped 3D-printed components, for example from rocket engineering. Further fields of application are customs and security screening of sealed cargo and, in the long term, medical imaging. The company's foundation is based on accelerator and detector physics from DESY, CERN and Imperial College.
