About Nesterval

Nesterval is an immersive theatre ensemble founded in Vienna in 2011 that understands itself as queer people's theatre, translating, overpainting and deconstructing classics of literary and theatre history into the present. At the centre of the productions are a theatrical experiential space and the active involvement of the audience; the plays work with a 'play within a play' and often resemble a contemporary series or a computer role-playing game. All of the more than 25 national and international productions are site-specific projects that connect to the cultural, social and historical background of the venue and bring abandoned or unused spaces back to life. The ensemble of over 20 performers, drag artists and actors tells the story of the fictional family dynasty Nesterval in changing formations. The leading team consists of Martin Finnland (Concept & Direction) and Teresa Löfberg (Script & Dramaturgy). Co-productions and commissions have been created with, among others, the Vienna State Opera, brut Wien, Kampnagel Hamburg, the Sophiensæle Berlin, the Wiener Festwochen and the ANTI Festival Kuopio.
