About the Project
NewControl is a European research project (H2020/ECSEL-KDT JU, Grant Agreement N° 826653-2) with a total budget of 37.858.613,45 €, 43 partners from 12 countries and 22 demonstrators; the project coordinator is AVL List GmbH in Austria. The aim of the project is the development of virtualized platforms for the vehicle-side subsystems of highly automated driving from SAE Level 3+, which combine the functions of perception, cognition and control through vertical integration in an adaptive architecture framework. The platforms provide these functions as services, enable portability to different application domains and a modular, safety-oriented (safe by design) development. Key technical focuses are sensor fusion from lidar, radar and further sensors, fail-operational control systems, energy-efficient embedded computing platforms, and digital twins for validation, certification and qualification. Partners along the semiconductor, automotive and aerospace value chains, including AVL, TTTech Auto, STMicroelectronics, Mercedes-Benz AG, Flash Battery and FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg, developed, among other things, a fail-operational prototype and lidar innovations. The project supported the European goal of zero road traffic fatalities by 2050.
