About Oerlikon Balzers Coating Germany
Oerlikon Balzers Coating Germany GmbH, based in Erkelenz (North Rhine-Westphalia), specializes in coating components with polycrystalline diamond layers. The company was founded in 2006 as D-Coat GmbH and acquired by the Liechtenstein coating specialist Oerlikon Balzers in early 2020; since December 2020, it has operated as Oerlikon Balzers Coating Germany GmbH. Erkelenz is Oerlikon Balzers' fourth and largest diamond coating center, alongside Luxembourg, the USA, and Korea. Coating is performed using CVD technology (Chemical Vapor Deposition), particularly via HFCVD technology (Hot Filament CVD) and plasma processes. The BALDIA portfolio's diamond layers are used in the processing of highly abrasive materials, such as drilling in fiber-reinforced plastics (CFK, GFK), the manufacture of graphite molds, ceramics machining (zirconium oxide), as well as in compressed and sintered powders and stacks. Target industries include aerospace, automotive industry, mold construction, and the dental sector.

Materials & Coating Processes
CVD Diamond Coating (Diamond sp3)
Chemical Vapor Deposition of diamond layers for highest wear resistance in the machining of highly abrasive special materials.
Hot Filament CVD (HFCVD)
Deposition of diamond layers using Hot Filament technology for premium applications with the highest demands on surface quality and tool tolerances.
Plasma-CVD Coating
Plasma-based CVD process for the deposition of diamond layers.
Fiber-Reinforced Plastics (CFK, GFK)
Machined materials for which diamond-coated cutting tools are used in abrasive machining.
Graphite
Material for molds whose machining benefits from diamond-coated tools.
Zirconium Oxide / Ceramics
Machined ceramic materials, including in the dental sector.
Compressed and Sintered Powders / Stacks
Highly abrasive special materials for which the BALDIA diamond layers are designed.
