About ovag Netz GmbH
The ovag Netz GmbH is an electricity distribution grid operator based in Friedberg (Hesse) and was founded on 01.07.2006 as a 100 percent subsidiary of Oberhessische Versorgungs- und Verkehrsgesellschaft mbH (OVVG). It has leased the electricity grid of Oberhessische Versorgungsbetriebe AG (OVAG) and is responsible for operational management, i.e. the operation, maintenance and expansion of the energy supply network. The grid area covers around 3,000 km² and extends across the Gießen district, Vogelsberg district, Wetterau district and Main-Kinzig district. Around 460,000 people as well as 5 subordinate distribution grid operators (municipal utilities) are connected in this area. The maximum grid load is approx. 376 MW with a sales volume of approx. 2 TWh; the distribution grid is connected to the upstream 110-kV grid of Avacon Netz GmbH via 21 transformer substations (110/20 kV). Services include grid connections (house, commercial and construction power connections), EEG feed-in including reservation procedures, smart metering systems and plan information. The company is certified according to the IT Security Catalogue pursuant to § 11 para. 1a EnWG and has passed the TSM audit in accordance with VDE-AR-N 4001.
