Who is plastes.de?

plastes.de is a sole proprietorship of Kai Erich Truth based in Gößweinstein (Bavaria), developing animated Scale Cockpit Displays for model making as a side business. The core product is software modules for so-called Glass Cockpits, which run on displays from 4D Systems in sizes from 0.96 to 4.3 inches and make models of helicopters, jets, aircraft, boats and cars/automobiles appear in realistic cockpits. The modules show, among other things, artificial horizon, engine data, altimeter, MFD, radar and GPS views and can optionally be coupled with real sensors as data providers (real-time data/telemetry). Development began in 2013 on an Arduino basis and was switched to the more powerful, more readable displays from 4D Systems. For model types without a suitable module, plastes.de offers joint pilot projects. Customers are scale model builders, among others in the RC helicopter and boat sector.

Hardware & Software

4DSYS

Displays from 4D Systems

Display hardware (uOLED/uLCD/uOLED-160P2, 0.96–4.3 inches) as the basis of the cockpit modules.

ARDUINO

Arduino platform

Original hardware basis of the first cockpit displays with C++ programming.

TELEM

Telemetry/real data

Optional coupling with real sensors as data providers for real-time data in the model.

Company History

  1. 1977

First model making contacts: father started flying helicopters; own experience with model cars (truck bodies, scale) and scale boats.

  2. 2003

Return to model making, focus on helicopters and multicopters; idea of installing displays in the cockpit (first major scale project: AH-1S Tow Cobra; colleague project EC145 with PHT3).

  3. 2013

Start of programming animated Scale Cockpit Displays on an Arduino basis; switch to displays from 4D Systems; founding of plastes.de on 27.06.2013.
