About the Brewery
Privat-Brauerei Strate Detmold GmbH & Co. KG was founded in 1863 by Adolf Hüppe and is today run as a family business in its fifth generation. The brewery site has been located on Palaisstraße in Detmold in the district of Lippe since its founding days; the neo-Gothic building gives the brewery a castle-like appearance, which is why expansions were carried out mostly underground. The product range includes Pilsner, Landbier and numerous beer specialties; since 1985 the swing-top bottle has been a specialty of the house, and with 36 million bottles filled the brewery ranks among the largest fillers of this bottle type. Total output in 2006 was approximately 160,000 hectoliters, having roughly quintupled since 1979. More than 30 employees work in production and administration. The offering also includes the "Stratosphäre" visitor center with guided tours as well as a beer academy with brewing courses.
