About Pyrum

Since 2008, Pyrum Innovations AG has been developing and operating technologies for raw material recovery from end-of-life tyres. At its headquarters in Dillingen/Saar, the company operates a full-scale industrial recycling plant that accepts and processes around 20,000 tonnes of end-of-life tyres per year. The tyres are shredded, rubber granulate is separated from steel and textile, and is then thermally decomposed in the absence of oxygen (thermolysis). This produces secondary raw materials such as ThermoTireOil® and ThermoTireBlack® (recovered Carbon Black), as well as gas used to supply energy to the plant, and steel wire for the steel industry. The infrastructure – from its own laboratory to the industrial plant – was developed, planned and built in-house. Customers of the raw materials include BASF, Continental, Schwalbe, Pirelli, VAUDE, Mercedes-Benz and Synthos; in addition, Pyrum supplies plant technology for external recycling plants in Europe.

Raw Materials and Processes

TTO

ThermoTireOil®

REACH-registered pyrolysis oil, used inter alia via chemical recycling at BASF (ChemCycling®), VAUDE and Mercedes-Benz.

TTB

ThermoTireBlack®

Upgraded recovered Carbon Black for the production of new tyres, e.g. at Schwalbe, Continental and Pirelli.

St

Steel/steel wire

Steel wire separated during shredding is returned to the steel industry as a secondary raw material.

GGR

Rubber/rubber granulate

Granulate obtained from shredded end-of-life tyres as input material for thermolysis.

Tex

Textile

Textile fraction separated during the shredding of end-of-life tyres.
