About regryd
regryd GmbH, based in Dresden, develops and integrates hybrid high-temperature solid-state heat storage systems for the decarbonization of industrial process heat and municipal heating networks. The patented long-term storage system uses a bed of basalt rock with defined porosity and grain size as the storage medium; an insulation layer made of power plant ash minimizes heat losses. Surplus wind and solar energy as well as industrial waste heat are stored – electricity is converted into heat via a hot air generator (power-to-heat), while heat is stored directly. The storage temperature is up to 850 °C with a storage capacity of up to 405 kWh/m³ and an efficiency of at least 90 %. The system delivers process heat, process steam and hot water and is suitable both as a short-term and as a seasonal long-term storage system. regryd accompanies projects from system analysis through planning and permitting to integration, commissioning and operational handover. The company is a spin-off of the general planner IPROconsult GmbH, which can look back on more than 75 years of experience in energy and factory planning.

Storage media and materials
Basalt rock (natural stone bed)
Serves as the storage medium with defined porosity and grain size and enables an almost unlimited service life of the storage system.
Power plant ash
Used as an insulation layer and reduces heat losses to approximately 0.15 percent per day.
Recycled and recyclable materials
The storage system consists of recycled and recyclable materials and thus supports the circular economy.
