About RIVA Power Systems

RIVA Power Systems researches and develops methanol-based fuel cell systems for the simultaneous generation of heat and electricity. At the heart of the systems is a specially developed membrane electrode assembly (MEA), whose production the company covers along the entire value chain from monomer to polymer to finished membrane. Further development and piloting take place on the company's own facilities. The goal is a stationary fuel cell system for heating residential buildings and charging automobiles; as a fuel cell heater, the system can replace existing oil heating systems without major modifications. Methanol is used as the energy carrier, offering high availability and easy handling with an energy density of 4.4 kWh/l; the system uses a mixture of 60 volume percent methanol and 40 volume percent water. The product range extends from polymers in granulate form to finished membranes and individually tailored developments for applications in energy technology, building services and the automotive sector.
