About us
The Saar-Metall Group, headquartered in Saarbrücken, specializes in the processing of copper, copper alloys, aluminium alloys and selected steel materials. Founded in 1925, the company has supplied the ironworks industry of Saarland, Lorraine and Luxembourg for decades and today manufactures components such as contact pads, pressure ring segments, continuous casting moulds, lance heads, crucibles and blow moulds for blast furnaces as well as precision parts for drive technology. The value chain extends from forging on a 2,000 t forging press to CNC turning, milling and drilling, welding work and repairs. Forged contact pads made of continuously cast Cu-HCP receive a drilled cooling system with welded-in copper plugs; all weld seams are 100 percent dye penetrant tested and every component undergoes a pressure test. The group comprises Saar-Metallwerke GmbH in Saarbrücken as well as Solocuivre SARL and SM France SARL in Sarreguemines (France). Customers come from the iron and steel industry, the electrical, metal and ferroalloy industries as well as the automotive and automotive supplier industry.

Materials and processes
Cu-HCP (continuously cast)
Continuously cast pure copper from European primary copper smelters as feedstock for forged contact pads with high conductivity.
Pure copper
Base material for components of the iron and steel industry such as pads, segments and crucibles.
Copper alloys
For mechanically machined and welded components as well as precision parts for drive technology.
Aluminium alloys
Forged and mechanically further processed components for various industrial sectors.
Steel materials
Selected steel materials for precision parts and mechanical machining.
Forging (hot forming)
Massive forming on the 2,000 t forging press in a defined sequence of upsetting and drawing-out steps for a fine-grained microstructure.
CNC machining
Turning, milling and drilling from pre-machining to ready-to-install final machining with the tightest tolerances.
Welding
Closing drilled cooling systems with welded-in copper plugs; weld seams 100% dye penetrant tested.

History
- 1925
Foundation of Saar-Metallwerke GmbH in Saarbrücken by industrialists from the Siegerland region; supply of the iron and steel industry with components for water-cooled copper fittings.
- 1935
Foundation of Solocuivre S.A. in Thionville as a sales company for the Lorraine steel industry.
- 1958
Construction of the Sarreguemines/Moselle plant; relocation of Solocuivre's headquarters to Sarreguemines; Saarbrücken produces cast parts, Sarreguemines forged products, above all blow moulds for blast furnaces.
