About Sachtleben Bergbau

Sachtleben Bergbau GmbH & Co. KG operates the Grube Clara mine in Wolfach/Oberwolfach in the Central Black Forest. Barite (baryte) has been mined there for more than 125 years, and fluorspar (fluorite) has additionally been extracted for around 45 years. The value chain comprises underground mining with tunnel driving, drilling and blasting, followed by the processing and refining of the ores into high-quality products for the downstream processing industry. The processing operation uses sorting processes based on flotation with agitator cells as well as drying lines. Quality assurance is carried out by wet-chemical analyses in the company's own laboratory. Barite and fluorspar are used, among other things, as fillers for coatings and paints as well as for plastics and composite materials. The company is part of the Sachtleben Minerals Group, generates its business with around 45 employees at the site, and presents itself internationally, among other venues, at the European Coatings Show and at JEC World in Paris.
