SAFIA Technologies develops test kits based on multiplex technology that enable rapid and precise detection of mycotoxins (fungal toxins) in food and feed. The systems allow simultaneous detection of the most important EU-regulated mycotoxins in a single measurement, with results in 30 to 90 minutes. Compared to conventional methods such as ELISA and HPLC, material cost savings of up to 75 percent are claimed. Handling is deliberately kept simple: samples are mixed with reagents, and the measurement is fully automated. The kits work without complex laboratory infrastructure and can therefore be used in a variety of settings – in food and feed businesses as well as in laboratories. The kits are continuously further developed to meet the increasing regulatory burden and growing risks posed by mycotoxins. The technology is also applied in environmental medicine, for example in detecting mycotoxin exposure in urine. Target markets are the food and feed industry, laboratories, environmental medicine, and bioanalytics.
