About us
Salzwedeler Baumkuchen GmbH & Co. KG is a confectionery manufactory in Salzwedel (Altmark, Saxony-Anhalt) that produces the traditional Salzwedel Baumkuchen entirely by hand. The dough consists of four basic ingredients: eggs, butter, sugar and flour. On a rotating beechwood drum over an open fire, the dough is applied and baked layer by layer by hand until the characteristic rings and typical jagged shape emerge. After baking, each cake receives its coating of fondant or selected couverture chocolates: dark chocolate with at least 70 % cocoa, fine milk chocolate with at least 38 % cocoa, or white chocolate with 33 % cocoa butter. The Baumkuchen are baked fresh upon receipt of the order and sold via the company's own online shop with a preferred delivery date. The name 'Salzwedeler Baumkuchen' has been registered by the EU as a protected geographical indication (PGI) since 2010.
