About Sandvik Mining

Sandvik Mining is a business area of the Swedish technology group Sandvik and supplies machinery, drilling tools, ground support products, spare parts, services and digital solutions for mining, tunneling and construction. The portfolio includes underground and surface drilling rigs, loaders, haul trucks, mechanical cutting machines, rock bolt installation units, hollow core bolts as well as rebuild, repair and rock tools services. At the Austrian site in Zeltweg there is a competence center for engineering and production of mining and tunneling machinery for cutting rock excavation with more than 175 years of history. The contract manufacturing there offers the complete process chain for demanding precision components: CNC turning and 5-axis milling, gear technology (spur, bevel and spiral bevel gears up to module 28), in-house heat treatment (case hardening, quenching and tempering, nitriding, stress-relief annealing), precision grinding, certified welding to ISO 3834-2 and final assembly – from design consulting through rough machining to the finished component. In terms of materials, steel dominates, including ductile steels for hollow core bolts, as well as cemented carbide with its own recycling program in Austria. Customers come from mining, tunneling, geotechnics, the quarrying industry, mechanical engineering, drive technology and the energy sector; in 2025 the group was active with around 42,000 employees in approximately 150 countries.

Materials & Processes

Stahl

Steel

Gear components, shafts, load-bearing structures and self-drilling hollow bar systems with yield strengths of 220–630 kN.

Duktiler Stahl

Ductile steel

For DSI ductile hollow core bolts with high deformability in squeezing and jointed rock.

HM

Cemented carbide

Drilling tools; worn tools are recycled in Austria and returned to new production.

WB

Mineral Bolt Resin

Injection resin for anchoring hollow core bolts in weak and brittle ground.
