Sargfabrik Hans Wendel u. Co. GmbH (HWD) has been manufacturing coffins from domestic woods and funeral accessories in Dinkelsbühl in Middle Franconia since 1949. The company supplies funeral businesses and commercial resellers with an extensive product range and, in addition to standard models, also produces custom-made items according to customer requirements, including decorated and individual models. The value chain includes its own sawmill; the wood is predominantly sourced from regional forests, and wood residues are used for energy generation. Production combines craftsmanship tradition with modern technology for consistent quality, on-time delivery and personal service in the region. The environmental management system is EMAS registered and is audited annually by independent environmental auditors. In April 2025, HWD opened the additional Rhein Main site.
