About Sativa Rheinau
Sativa Biosaatgut GmbH is the German subsidiary of Sativa Rheinau AG, headquartered in Rheinau, Switzerland. The company was founded in 1999 to ensure an independent, GMO-free seed supply for organic agriculture. It breeds new vegetable varieties for organic cultivation, carries out systematic conservation breeding of old varieties, and multiplies cereal and vegetable seed in biodynamic production. Seed multiplication takes place in a network of around 100 organic and biodynamic farms in Switzerland, Germany, France and Italy; the company's own land is under contract. Rheinau is home to seed production, processing and cleaning, including calibration, precision seed, pelleting of lettuce seed and hot steam treatment. The germination capacity of all lots is tested; the production of cereal basic seed for the Peter Kunz organic cereal breeding programme takes place on organically managed land. Sativa is an operation of the Fintan project and cooperates with the ProSpecieRara foundation.

Calibrated seed
Seed sorted by size, which facilitates mechanical sowing and enables more uniform emergence.

Quality
All freshly harvested seed as well as all stock lots annually are tested for germination capacity; internal standards exceed the statutory requirements. Cereal lots are inspected in the field by Agroscope and tested for germination capacity, purity and health, then labelled as certified Z seed.
