Shading specialist from the Black Forest

Schanz Rollladensysteme GmbH is a mid-sized family business founded in 1977, based in the Black Forest and specializing in the shading of asymmetric glass surfaces and glass roofs. The company manufactures individual roller shutters from extruded aluminium for all window shapes – whether slanted, pointed, round or straight – as well as conservatory shading, external venetian blinds (Raffstoren), roof window roller shutters and textile zip/roll screens. Core products are the slanted roller shutter Studio Star and the conservatory roller shutter Wiga Star. The complete solutions are provided from a single source: the company's own employees take measurements on site, production takes place at the Simmersfeld site, and installation is carried out by an in-house team of installers. The roller shutters operate from bottom to top using the company's own drive technology; the roller shutter box is the smallest of its kind and can be retrofitted without altering the building structure. The products are CE marked, wind classified and temperature tested. The company employs more than 80 staff, has its own development department and provides apprenticeships in three occupational fields. In addition to Germany, Schanz supplies Switzerland, Austria and Alsace; through its sister company Alutech United, Inc. it is also represented in the USA.

Founding phase: Hans Schanz, a trained mechanical engineer, deals with unusual roller shutters and the search for niche products.
1977
Start of roller shutter development and founding of Schanz GmbH.

World first: a roller shutter that fits from below into a wide variety of window shapes – the Studio Star is created.
