About Alfons Schmeier
Schleifscheibenfabrik Alfons Schmeier GmbH & Co. KG was founded in 1946 in Helmbrechts (Upper Franconia) and specializes in custom high-precision tools for internal grinding and superfinishing. The portfolio includes vitrified CBN grinding wheels for internal cylindrical grinding (diameters approx. 0.8–80 mm, technologies FreeCut CBN, DuraCut CBN, LightCut CBN), conventional wheels made of sintered corundum, corundum and silicon carbide (approx. 1–150 mm), as well as honing stones and honing cups for fine machining in the SuperFine I and II bond systems, including the sulfur-free 410A Sulfur Free solution. All bond systems are manufactured in-house; a dedicated in-house laboratory focuses on bond development. Around 1,500 new custom solutions are created each year in tool sizes from 0.8 to 120 mm. Application engineers support customers in on-site process optimization. Customers include the automotive and supply industries, e-mobility, rolling bearing manufacturers, medical technology, aerospace, tool and mold making, hydraulics and the semiconductor industry (SiC machining). Since 2024 the company has been majority-owned by Abraxos Holding AG and belongs to the group together with its sister company Meister Abrasives.

Materials and Technologies
Cubic boron nitride (CBN)
Superabrasive grain with extremely high hardness and thermal conductivity for internal grinding of hardened steels and difficult-to-machine materials.
Diamond
Hardest known grinding material for applications requiring high precision as well as heat and wear resistance, e.g. with carbides, ceramics and composite materials.
Silicon carbide (SiC)
Synthetic, extremely hard grain for grinding processes in which other abrasives wear out too quickly or generate too much heat.
Sintered corundum (aluminum oxide)
Microcrystalline corundum grain with high hardness for high stock removal applications; also the basis of the sulfur-free 410A Sulfur Free solution.
Corundum
Conventional abrasive grain for internal grinding wheels of the Performance Kor technology.
Vitrified bond (SF I / SF II)
Proprietary bond matrix that fuses the grains into high-precision, stable grinding and honing tools; the foundation of the superfinish product solutions.
Organic bond (FUSION)
Proprietary organic bond from the company's own bond production for specialized grinding applications.
High-performance ceramics
Workpiece materials in grinding and honing tools for the semiconductor industry, including ingot and boule machining.
