Sawmill and planing mill in the Pinzgau

Schößwendter Holz is a family-run sawmill and planing mill in Saalfelden am Steinernen Meer in the Pinzgau region (Salzburg). Around 130 employees process 280,000 solid cubic metres of roundwood annually, predominantly spruce from a radius of approx. 120 km, into sawn timber and planed products. The product range includes sawn timber in various grades, planed wood products as well as wood pellets made from the company's own sawdust and shavings with an annual production of 61,000 tonnes, available loose from 3 tonnes. Since 2006, an on-site biomass combined heat and power plant has generated around 40,590 MWh of green electricity and approx. 61,000 MWh of heat per year from bark and residual wood; the heat is used for timber drying and in-house needs. The by-products bark, sawdust, wood chips and planer shavings are fully utilised, with wood chips supplied as a raw material to the paper industry. The majority of production is exported, with a focus on Italy; customers include carpentry businesses, DIY stores as well as glulam and packaging manufacturers.
