About the Sawmill
Schonath GmbH in Scheßlitz-Burgellern is a family-owned hardwood sawmill and timber trading company that evolved from an agricultural operation with a grist mill and an attached sawmill. The company produces technically dried hardwood sawn timber in species such as beech, oak, maple and ash, and operates its own round timber purchasing from sustainable forestry. The value chain includes sawing of hardwood round timber, technical drying in a vacuum chamber (15 m³) and three fresh-air/exhaust-air drying chambers (60 m³ each), as well as conditioning in a 1,000 m² climate hall, so that the wood is directly ready for further processing. Sorted stock keeping in many wood species and thicknesses enables fast delivery capability; aluminium stacking sticks are used for the high-quality product range. On the more than 50,000 m² company site on the A70 between Bamberg and Bayreuth, the sawmill, drying facilities, warehouse and administration are combined. The company is certified according to FSC® and PEFC.
