About Schwaiger Holzindustrie
Schwaiger Holzindustrie is a family business founded in 1911 in Hengersberg (Lower Bavaria) and produces construction and sawn timber, KVH rough-dimension lumber, glulam lamellas and wood pellets in HD quality. Up to 1,000,000 solid cubic metres of spruce and fir roundwood per year, sourced predominantly from Bavarian forests, is sawn in lengths of 4 to 21 m. Since 1992 the mill has operated with chipper-saw circular saw technology; drying and planing capacities complement production. The integrated overall concept combines sawmill, biomass combined heat and power plant and pellet plant (HD technology), resulting in low primary energy consumption and a good CO2 balance – recognized in a 2008 study by ZAE Bayern. Around 95% of the sawn timber goes to regular customers, predominantly within Germany; the remainder is exported to Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Austria, Great Britain, Ireland, the USA and the Middle/Far East. On a plant site of more than 30 hectares near the A 3 motorway, orders are handled in small and large volumes.

History
- 1911
Founded as Sawmill Schwaiger & Steiniger near the centre of Hengersberg
- 1950
The founder's sons take over the leading gang saw operation; annual sawing volume rises from 8,000 to approx. 20,000 solid cubic metres
- 1981
Josef Schwaiger (3rd generation) makes the leap to an industrial operation, new band sawmill, relocation outside the village
- 1991
Major fire destroys the entire production facilities
- 1992
Production resumes with chipper-saw circular saw technology
- 2008
Study by ZAE Bayern recognizes the integrated overall concept (CO2 balance, primary energy consumption)
