About Schwaiger Holzindustrie

Schwaiger Holzindustrie GmbH & Co. KG is a family business from Hengersberg in the district of Deggendorf, run by the third generation since 1911. On a site of more than 30 hectares directly on the A 3 between Regensburg and Passau, the company operates a highly automated sawmill with an annual log cut of up to 1,000,000 solid cubic meters, a pellet plant with a capacity of up to 300,000 tonnes per year, and a biomass combined heat and power plant. The raw material processed is predominantly spruce and fir roundwood from Bavarian forests in lengths of 4 to 21 m, with 120 to 150 loads per day. The product range includes construction and structural timber such as KVH blanks, construction timber, rough decking boards, glulam lamellas and international standard dimensions, supplemented by trade standards and side products. The products are used in above-ground and civil engineering as well as in the further-processing industry; around 95 % of the sawn timber is purchased by regular customers in Germany, with the remainder exported to Europe, the USA, and the Middle and Far East. Its own rail siding enables transport by rail, road and waterways.

History

  1. 1911

Founded as the sawmill Schwaiger & Steininger near the town center of Hengersberg.

  2. 1950

The founder's sons take over the gang saw operation; the annual log cut rises from 8,000 to around 20,000 solid cubic meters, expanding into a significant timber trader.

  3. 1981

Josef Schwaiger (3rd generation) completes the transition to an industrial operation; new construction of a band saw mill outside Hengersberg.

  4. 1991

A major fire destroys the entire production facilities.

  5. 1992

Production resumes with new chipper-circular saw technology; subsequent investments in drying and planing capacities.

  6. 2006

Commissioning of the pellet plant together with a biomass combined heat and power plant.

  7. 2008

A study by ZAE Bayern recognizes the integrated overall concept with regard to CO2 balance and primary energy consumption.
