About Scierie Zahnd
Scierie Zahnd SA is a sawmill founded in 1904 in Rueyres in the canton of Vaud and is today run by the fourth generation. The company employs 54 staff and is one of the largest sawmills in French-speaking Switzerland as well as the second largest in Switzerland. It produces boards and beams of spruce and fir from the forests of Romandie, which are further processed into construction timber, wood for glued laminated timber (BLC), formwork timber, packaging timber as well as laths, batten frameworks and façade battens. The range of services includes sawing, drying, traditional joinery work, conditioning of the wood moisture (class 2 yellow), NIMP15 treatment and the processing of by-products. Bark, sawdust and wood chips are recovered by the neighbouring Enerbois biomass plant of Romande Energie SA; the waste heat is used, among other things, for timber drying. A large proportion of the products is exported.
