About Second Life Batteries
Second Life Batteries GmbH is dedicated to the reuse of used lithium-ion traction batteries from the e-mobility industry. When batteries no longer meet the requirements of their first life cycle in vehicles, they remain valuable for applications with lower load requirements. The company refurbishes, tests, classifies and certifies used battery modules within defined limit values and documents their properties so that they can be reliably deployed in energy storage applications such as home storage for PV systems, battery systems for boat and ship propulsion, and balancing-energy storage with renewable energies. For OEMs and vehicle importers, SL Batteries takes over ownership rights to used batteries and organizes collection, transport, disassembly, storage, refurbishment and recycling – including of defective or accident-damaged lithium-ion batteries. A battery passport documents the entire life cycle through to recycling, with the aim of recovering valuable constituents and keeping resources in Europe. In 2022, the startup was one of 36 companies from 22 countries in the Circular Valley incubator program and received funding under EFRE and GreenEconomy.IN.NRW in 2023.
