About SHF Steinbruchbetriebe

SHF Steinbruchbetriebe GmbH & Co. KG, headquartered in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, operates the Bettenfeld shell limestone quarry. Every year the company extracts thousands of tonnes of shell limestone there, a sedimentary rock formed over 230 million years ago through the deposition and solidification of mussels. The limestone around Bettenfeld contains around 86 percent calcium carbonate, approximately 6 percent magnesium carbonate and about 6 percent silicate; its average compressive strength is 56 MPa at a density of 2.7 kg/ldm³. The rock is mechanically crushed according to technical standards and sorted into customer-specific grain sizes: from crushed sand 0/1 and 0/2 mm via grit (2–22 mm) and crushed stone (22–300 mm) up to stones in various sizes and shapes, including hydraulic engineering stones. In addition, the company offers mixtures, sealing clay and lime-rich marl clay as well as reprocessing and trading of building materials and landfill sales. Customers include public sector clients, industrial companies and private builders from road construction, track construction, hydraulic engineering, agriculture and civil and structural engineering.
