About Silke Decker
Silke Decker is a product designer and artist with a studio and gallery in Hamburg. At the centre of her work is the material porcelain, which is transformed into one-of-a-kind vessels, objects and body jewellery. Using the self-developed cord-porcelain technique, wool threads are dipped in casting porcelain and laid out individually into braids; in the kiln the threads burn away, while the structure of the cord is preserved as porcelain structure. In addition to her own one-of-a-kind pieces, commissioned works are created for companies from the fields of product design and table culture. Clients include Rosenthal, WMF, Philippi, Serax, Kähler Design and Zieher. Works are represented in several museum collections, including the Grassimuseum Leipzig and the Hetjens Museum Düsseldorf. The gallery and studio in Hamburg are open on Tuesdays and Fridays and by appointment.
