About Sixteen44
Sixteen44 is a Swiss startup in the field of emissions technology that removes diluted methane which can neither be flared nor economically captured. Below a concentration of about 4 %vol, methane will not sustain a flame; large portions of global methane emissions — including emissions from dairy barns, landfill surfaces, wastewater treatment plants, biogas plants as well as oil and gas and coal mining sites — fall within this range. The technology replicates the natural atmospheric oxidation of methane within a unit on site, at low temperature, without combustion and with minimal energy requirements. The methane is not captured, stored or transported, but is permanently oxidized at the point of origin. The service portfolio includes emissions assessment (site assessment), design and dimensioning of the unit, installation as well as operation, monitoring and quantified reporting of methane removal.
