About Solarfreeze
Solarfreeze is a social solar climate project from Switzerland that develops grid-independent, CO2-free room cooling based on solar energy. The solution is aimed at hot and humid countries where, in view of global warming, room cooling is no longer a luxury but a necessity. The low-tech approach with high local value creation requires no electricity costs, operates silently and draft-free, and works even during power outages – as an alternative to conventional, fossil-fuelled mini air conditioners with high CO2 emissions. The prototype is located at the Ostschweizer Fachhochschule (Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences) in Rapperswil (CH) and shows three different configurations of the room cooling elements. After development in Switzerland, the system was tested in Cuba; the next project is planned in Ghana. Further information in English is available on the REPIC website.
