About SorCool
SorCool manufactures adsorption chillers and propane heat pumps in Halle (Saale) for industry, commerce and building services. The systems generate cooling from surplus heat: in sealed vacuum chambers, water evaporates as a natural refrigerant, the water vapour is adsorbed by porous silica gel and is desorbed again by driving heat from a hot water temperature of more than 55 °C. Typical heat sources are combined heat and power systems (CHP), solar thermal installations and industrial waste heat, for example from compressed air generation with integrated heat recovery. According to the company, operation reduces cooling operating costs by up to 80 % and CO₂ emissions by around 100 kg per MWh of cooling. Every system is manufactured to German quality and safety standards, subjected to load tests under real conditions on in-house test benches before delivery, and shipped with complete documentation of all production steps. The service portfolio includes project planning, cost calculation, analysis of existing heat sources and planning documents.

Refrigerants and Processes
Water (refrigerant)
Natural refrigerant in the sealed adsorption modules; evaporates at minimal temperatures in the vacuum chamber, thereby generating cooling.
Silica gel (adsorbent)
Extremely porous adsorbent that absorbs the water vapour like a sponge and is regenerated by driving heat.
Propane (refrigerant)
Natural, climate-friendly refrigerant of the propane heat pumps.
