Spezial Maschinenfabrik-Schonungen-GmbH (SMS), based in Niederwerrn near Schweinfurt, has existed since 1998 and emerged from the SEBASTIAN MESSERSCHMIDT SPEZIALMASCHINENFABRIK. The company manufactures machines for flashing, grinding and lapping of precision balls used in the ball bearing, glass, ceramics and jewellery industries. In addition, SMS offers contract machining of any materials with unit weights up to 10 tonnes, welded constructions in steel and aluminium, and assembly of machine components. Manufacturing is generally carried out according to customer drawings or defined specifications, from one-off pieces to small series. In addition to building new machines of the SLM and SFM series, SMS also performs overhauls, retrofits, spare parts supply and on-site repairs, including JGS machines.
