About Kulturfabrik Schönbach

Under the name Kulturfabrik Schönbach, STARKE Erlebnis GmbH operates a historic factory complex from 1890 in the Upper Lusatia region as a culture and recreation centre. The factory ensemble covers around 7,000 m² with an inner courtyard of approx. 3,000 m² and includes conference and seminar rooms, an event venue for up to 800 guests and 19 holiday apartments (11 Kreativ Studios and 8 Fabrik Lofts). The offering includes conferences and congresses, seminars and workshops, corporate celebrations as well as private parties and weddings, complemented by an all-inclusive package with catering, lighting and sound technology and the arrangement of speakers, coaches and moderators. The centrepiece is 'Das MAX', a meeting hub created by gutting and redesigning the central building. The concept combines industrial history with a modern lifestyle and lived inclusion within the DORFWALDBACH umbrella brand. Customers include companies, associations and foundations from the region.

Event Quality

Event support includes professional technology partners, catering arrangement within the all-inclusive package and a hygiene concept developed in-house, which enabled an internal trade fair to be held in 2020.

History of the Factory

1. 1890

   Factory building constructed by manufacturer and estate owner Karl Friedrich Matthes, originally a weaving mill (two wings, four and five storeys respectively).

2. 1905

   Weaving mill insolvent; the factory passed to Abraham Dürninger (Herrnhut).

3. 1936

   Sale to the cousins Gerhard Heinrich Wolfgang and Wilhelm Söhngen.

4. 1939-1945

   During the Second World War, warehouse of the German Navy.

5. 1955-1958

   Schönbach flower festivals with up to 130,000 guests (1958); flowers for the festival wagons were stored in the factory.

6. bis 2014

   Production of dressing materials by Temedia GmbH, afterwards relocation to Bischofswerda.

7. 2020

   Internal trade fair of Volksbank Löbau-Zittau eG held despite coronavirus hygiene concept.

8. heute

   Kulturfabrik Schönbach as a culture and recreation centre under the DORFWALDBACH umbrella brand; the pet project 'Das MAX' was created by gutting and redesigning the central building.
