About the STEPPKE Network

STEPPKE is a network of providers of integration assistance and youth welfare services launched in 2020 by the Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe (LWL), which supports foster families for children and adolescents with intellectual, physical or sensory impairments. To date, 36 organizations have joined the network; they recruit, train and prepare potential foster families and professionally support the foster care arrangements according to uniform quality standards. The LWL finances and steers the assistance and coordinates the network. The goal is to bundle the entire support process for foster families so that the same support is provided regardless of place of residence. This includes development support, documentation, accompaniment to medical appointments, respite services and the uniform NRW foster family allowance. In 2023, around 320 children and adolescents lived in a STEPPKE family, around 30 percent more than in the previous year.
