About the FLEDERMAUS Foundation

The FLEDERMAUS Foundation is a non-profit foundation based in Erfurt dedicated to the protection and conservation of native bats. Its work includes operating a bat emergency hotline for found-animal advice, awarding bat-friendly measures as part of the FLEDERMAUSFREUNDLICH (BAT-FRIENDLY) initiative, training bat specialist advisors, and managing and securing FFH point objects such as churches, adits and bunker structures. As the special task 'Bat Conservation' of the Natura 2000 network, the foundation manages the bat-relevant matters of 12 Natura 2000 stations in Thuringia and the 35 designated FFH objects of the state. It advises roost owners, stations and authorities, identifies hazard points, develops project outlines and leads species conservation joint projects, for example on forest bat conservation and on the barbastelle bat. In addition, the foundation offers free information materials and public relations work on bat behaviour and conservation measures.
