About us
STOLL-ENGINEERING-LICHT is an engineering office in Munich, led by Dipl.-Ing. (graduate mechanical engineer) Reinhold Stoll. The company develops custom and series luminaires of every kind and size, light ceilings and light objects as well as constructions for general mechanical engineering. The services include parametric CAD-3D design with 2D manufacturing drawing derivation, photorealistic visualization, free-form surface design, tool and fixture design, calculations and drawings, up to documentation for patent submissions. For testing its own products, rapid prototyping via laser sintering (material PA 2200) and CNC milling of aluminium are used; prototypes are tested by light distribution, temperature and IP44 ingress protection tests. Own product lines are the mouth-blown opal glass luminaire COCOON, the pendant luminaire object DROP as well as the CNC-milled aluminium glass plate holders Byzanz and Pyramide. Contract work includes a height-adjustable lighting installation for the new synagogue in Berlin. In addition to selling its own products, ACCENTLICHT is a sales partner.

Materials & Processes
Parametric CAD-3D design
Free-form surface design with 2D manufacturing drawing derivation for luminaires and mechanical engineering.
Laser sintering (rapid prototyping)
Production of prototype parts from PA 2200 for light distribution tests and preliminary supplier selection.
CNC milling
Single-piece production of aluminium components such as shelf board holders machined from one piece.
Mouth-blown opal glass (triplex, matte opal)
Snow-white matte glass for the COCOON luminaire with tolerances of approx. 10 mm.
Stainless steel
Material of the glass holding springs, which compensate for glass thickness tolerances.
High-gloss chrome-plated sheet steel
Material of the luminaire fittings, refined by high-gloss chrome plating.
Porcelain
Material for lamp holders and terminal blocks.
Aluminium
Milled holders, housings and reflectors, partly glass bead blasted.
PA 2200 (polyamide)
Laser sintering material for rapid prototyping parts.
Borosilicate glass
Plano-convex collecting lens in the light object DROP.
PMMA
Prism reflector of the hall reflector luminaire with 60° beam angle.

Quality
Prototypes are tested by light distribution tests, temperature tests with hot-spot determination and all tests of ingress protection class IP44; finite element simulations accompany the development. Sales are handled as single-unit/contract manufacturing with documented assembly instructions.
