About Süd-West-Chemie
Süd-West-Chemie GmbH (SWC) has been developing and manufacturing customised industrial resin and adhesive systems as well as thermoset moulding compounds since 1946. The portfolio includes phenolic resins (novolacs and resoles, in powder and liquid form), melamine and urea resins, epoxy resin systems, and phenolic resin-based one-component thermoset adhesives. Moulding compounds are produced on the basis of phenolic, epoxy and melamine resins with reinforcements such as glass, carbon and cotton fibres. Applications include the abrasives, friction lining, refractory and foundry industries, commutators, the rubber and paint industries, as well as automotive and mechanical engineering. At the Neu-Ulm site, around 50 employees work on a site covering more than 42,000 m² with more than eight phenolic resin reactors, three grinding plants and over 1,200 m² of laboratory and analytics space. An in-house R&D department develops customer-specific resin and adhesive systems; the company supplies more than 700 customers in 127 countries.

Materials & Processes
Phenolic resin (novolacs and resoles)
Temperature-stable, chemical- and corrosion-resistant thermosets for grinding wheels, friction linings, refractory applications and moulding compounds; available as powders, flakes, water-based or solvent-based systems.
Melamine resin
Base for thermoset moulding compounds, among other things for commutators.
Urea resin
Industrial resin as a component of customised resin systems.
Epoxy resin
Base for moulding compounds, synthesis building blocks in epoxy resin systems, and epoxy modifications of phenolic resins.
Glass fibres (reinforcement)
Reinforcing fibres in thermoset moulding compounds for high mechanical load capacity.
Carbon fibres (reinforcement)
Reinforcing fibres for dimensionally stable, high-load thermoset components.
Cotton fibres (reinforcement)
Fibre reinforcement in moulding compounds; the gentle process allows fibre lengths up to 12 mm.
Rubber (modification)
Modification component for adjusting resin properties, e.g. for friction lining applications.
