Sugar Energy Swiss GmbH is a Swiss company founded at the end of 2024, headquartered in the GETEC Industrial Zone in Basel, respectively Rothausstrasse 61 in 4132 Muttenz. The company was established by Zhejiang Sugar Energy Technology Co., Ltd. (Ningbo, China), which was founded in 2017 together with the Ningbo Institute of Materials of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Sugar Energy Swiss handles market development, sales and after-sales service for bio-based new materials and their downstream derivatives in Europe. The core product is 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF), which is produced from biomass such as starch, cellulose, sucrose and agar and is converted via oxidation, hydrogenation, esterification, halogenation, polymerization and hydrolysis into high-quality derivatives such as FDCA, FDM, DFF and the polyester PEF. The platform products are used in pharmaceuticals (intermediates), fine chemicals, packaging, animal husbandry, textiles, new energy as well as coatings and foundry binders. REACH registrations for HMF and FDCA are held via B-Lands Consulting.
