About the Project

DeCarbCH is a national research project under the SWEET programme (Swiss Energy research for the Energy Transition) of the Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFOE). The consortium is coordinated by the University of Geneva, Institute for Environmental Sciences (ISE). The project addresses the decarbonisation of heating and cooling in Switzerland within three decades and lays the foundations for negative CO2 emissions. Its aim is to facilitate, accelerate and de-risk the implementation of renewable energies for heating and cooling in residential buildings, the service sector and industry. Three focal areas form the basis: advanced renewable energy and conversion technologies, thermal networks (heating and cooling) and energy storage. The consortium comprises research partners, associated partners and cooperation partners from the private and public sectors; the work is structured into 2 generic, 12 research and 5 pilot and demonstration work packages. In addition to modelling and case studies (including Zurich and Romandie), recommendations for policy and planning as well as continuing education offerings with OST are being developed.
