About Swiss Biochar
Swiss Biochar is a Swiss manufacturer of biochar and soil substrates based in Switzerland. Founded in 2010, the company produces EBC-certified biochar with a carbon content of over 80%, made by pyrolysis of residual biomass and subsequently activated. The porous structure of the activated biochar acts as a water and nutrient reservoir and provides habitat for microorganisms; 1 kg of biochar permanently binds around 2.9 kg of CO2. The product range includes pure biochar (Swiss Biochar Pure) as well as developed substrates such as the Baumelixier (tree elixir) for urban trees. Fields of application are agriculture and specialty crops (berries, fruit, vegetables, viticulture), feed additive and bedding in animal husbandry, green building and sponge city projects, landscaping and horticulture, as well as golf and sports fields. Together with planning offices, substrate manufacturers and municipalities, the company develops climate-adapted urban soils and substrate solutions. As the first manufacturer of high-quality biochar in Europe, Swiss Biochar received EBC certification in 2011 as the very first company ever; since 2021 it has been part of the Novocarbo Group.
