About Swissmetal Industries

Swissmetal Industries SA, headquartered in Reconvilier in the Bernese Jura, is a fully integrated production facility for copper alloys and semi-finished products. The company manufactures wires, bars, profiles, and strips from copper, brass, bronze, and special alloys according to customer specifications. Value creation covers all process stages from smelting in its own foundry, through rolling, extrusion, and drawing, up to the packaging of finished products; up to 100% recycled raw materials are used, depending on the alloy type. Customers include the watch industry, the electronics and writing instrument sector, precision machining, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, construction, as well as the automotive and aerospace industries. Special alloys are produced using the Osprey spray forming process, among others. At the end of 2025, the Dornach location was closed and all production centralized in Reconvilier.

History

  1. 1855

Founding of the Bueche, Boillat & Cie rolling mill and foundry in Reconvilier in the Bernese Jura.

  2. 1895

Founding of a rolling mill and foundry in Dornach under the name Schweizerische Metallwerke AG Dornach; both companies arose from the demand of the Swiss watch industry.

  3. 1900–1986

Parallel development of the two plants with press and drawing machines; production of brass bars and later wires; Boillat focused on small and medium sizes, Dornach on medium and large sizes.

  4. 1986–2006

Production of wires, bars, and profiles for writing instruments, electronics, and precision machining, as well as larger bars, profiles, and strips for electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, watch industry, and construction; entry into automotive and aerospace thanks to special alloys

  5. 2008

Commissioning of the new extrusion press at the Dornach location, capable of replacing five obsolete presses at full capacity.

  6. 2013

Acquisition of the business operation by the Chinese investor Baoshida.

  7. 2019

Acquisition by the 'Swiss Team' led by a Swiss industrialist on August 1, 2019; Headquarters Reconvilier, Branch Dornach.

  8. 2025

Consolidation: Closure of the Dornach location and centralization of all activities in Reconvilier.
