Tamron Europe GmbH, based in Cologne, is the European sales and service subsidiary of the Japanese optics group Tamron Co., Ltd., which was founded in 1950 as Taisei Optical Equipment Manufacturing in Urawa. The group develops and manufactures lenses and optical components for industrial image processing (machine vision), robotics, surveillance systems (CCTV), automotive, medical technology as well as satellite- and laser-based applications. Manufacturing covers the grinding, polishing and pressing of lenses made of optical glass, injection molding of plastic lenses and housings (resin forming), the building of molds and dies for precision molded parts, as well as optical coating and filter technology. Production sites are located in Japan (Hirosaki, Namioka, Owani), China (Foshan, Shanghai) and Vietnam. From its Cologne location, Tamron Europe GmbH offers European customers consulting, technical support, customization and an OEM process from the initial inquiry through prototype evaluation to series production. The group employs around 4,977 people (FY2025) and generated approximately 85.071 billion yen (approx. €470 million) in FY2025.
