About TheNomad
TheNomad is a Swiss company based in Geneva that mediates authentic African arts and crafts. The range includes handwoven baskets from Tanzania, Kenya, Mozambique and Rwanda as well as woodwork, mosaics, musical instruments and bead jewelry. The baskets come mainly from the Iringa region of Tanzania, where weavers of the Hehe people process milulu grass by hand; a particularly large basket can take up to three weeks of weaving time. TheNomad buys directly from local cooperatives – over 1000 baskets have already been purchased directly from the cooperatives – and avoids middlemen in order to secure fair income conditions. The buyers are retailers (wholesale), the hospitality industry, and companies that order customized products and corporate gifts.
